Home Server Build - Choosing Hardware and Benchmarks

Here it is, my home server build! The goal of this server was to run multiple virtual machines without having any resource issues. This is why I went with a dual socket motherboard, allowing me to run 16 CPU cores and 128GB of RAM. I’ll discuss why I picked all the different hardware and hypervisor, as well as run some performance benchmarks to see how well everything performs. The information should help you when selecting the hardware to use in your next server build. NAS: Should you build or buy?

Ever since we posted our NAS series, I've been asked whether it's better to build or buy your own NAS. In this video, I answer that question. Home Networking: Silencing the 2U AMD Ryzen server (Noctua PWM mod)

In a previous video (https://youtu.be/4B1t2cPeZb8) I built a 2U AMD Ryzen server. In this video I briefly talk about some blog articles I wrote on how to configure the ZFS Storage and how to configure the GPU passthrough. The rest of the video is about silencing the server to be used in a home environment! ░▒▓[Shopping links]▓▒░ Noctua NF-A8 PWM: geni.us/NriTBIj For all other hardware, see blog links below ░▒▓[Associated blog post]▓▒░ Hardware info and ZFS configuration how-to: http://blog.quindorian.org/2018/03/building-2u-amd-ryzen-server-hardware-configuration-zfs-settings.html/ Proxmox GPU Passthrough how-to: http://blog.quindorian.org/2018/03/building-a-2u-amd-ryzen-server-proxmox-gpu-passthrough.html/ Silencing the 2U AMD Ryzen server: http://blog.quindorian.org/2018/03/silencing-the-2u-amd-ryzen-server.html/ ░▒▓[Music]▓▒░ Intro&Outro TheFatRat - Xenogenesis (https://youtu.be/IyDvC6NvXBo)
