Hillside Eichler Inspired Residence in California “Atrium House” by Klopf Architecture

Klopf Architecture was challenged to design Atrium House, an Eichler-inspired 21st-Century, energy efficient new home that would replace a dilapidated 1940s home for a family of three in Belmont, California. Klopf and the owners planned a home that is modern, connected to nature at every turn, simple, and modular with a sense of composure, restfulness, and highly energy efficient. The home follows the gentle slope of the hillside while the overarching post-and-beam roof provides an unchanging datum line. The changing moods of nature animate the house because of views through large glass walls at nearly every vantage point. Every square foot of the house remains close to the ground creating and adding to the sense of connection with nature. Post and beam house on wooded ravine site renovated. The renovation of this post and beam house done to enhance many factors of this classic mid-century modern house, such as improving connections between indoor and outdoor house, reorganized interior spaces without any extension built (thanks to post and beam structure), enhances interior design to make it suitable for modern living way.
The result of this post and beam house renovation is awesome. From the outdoor this post and beam house has clarity footprint although built on steeply sloping terrain. The exterior of this post and beam house has dark colors to blend with surrounding wooded area. The interior has whiteness and raw wooden tone elements. Inside this house, warm ambiance arise, whiteness walls blend perfectly with exposed structure, and wooden furniture, also other elements both décor and building materials. Inside, every space maximized. The exterior garden landscape of this post and beam house is also interesting. Simple lawn combined with deck has a surprising element; Jacuzzi right at the corner.
