Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, today revealed the new S60 mid-size premium sports sedan at the company’s first US manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina. The new S60 is the first Volvo car to be sold without a diesel offer, signalling the company’s industry-leading commitment to electrification and a long-term future beyond the traditional combustion engine. In 2017 Volvo Cars was the first global car maker to announce its strategy that from 2019 all new models will be electrified. Two turbo-charged and super-charged plug-in hybrid petrol engines will be available in the new S60: Volvo’s T6 Twin Engine AWD plug-in hybrid that generates a combined 340hp, and the award-winning T8 Twin Engine AWD plug-in hybrid that delivers 400hp*. Volvo’s proven T5 and T6 petrol engines will be available at launch. In a first for the segment, customers can access the new S60 via Volvo Cars’ new premium subscription service Care by Volvo, which offers car access with no down payment via a monthly flat-fee subscription rather than ownership. Care by Volvo makes having a car as transparent, easy and hassle free as having a phone. The new S60 shares Volvo Cars’ own Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system with the new V60 premium mid-size estate, launched earlier this year, as well as the top-of-the-line 90 Series cars and award-winning XC60, all of which have achieved industry-leading safety ratings. This makes the new S60 one of the safest cars on the road. The City Safety with Autobrake technology assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions, and is the only system on the market to recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. In a world first for the mid-size sedan segment, City Safety now also engages auto braking to mitigate oncoming collisions. The optional Pilot Assist system – which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130km/h – has been upgraded with improved cornering performance. The S60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake further enhances safety for people inside and outside the car. Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, and keeps drivers connected at all times. The intuitive control is a tablet-style touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment apps. Electrified versions of the new S60 also offer a performance handling upgrade called Polestar Engineered – developed by Volvo Cars’ electric performance arm, Polestar. Polestar Engineered is available exclusively on the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid and is a complete offer that upgrades the car’s wheels, brakes, suspension and engine control unit, boosting the S60 T8 combined output to 415hp*. A range of load accessories help you make the most of your V60. These include a strong, lightweight bicycle holder that allows you to take what you love with you, and a folding towbar that slides out electrically when you need it. Load compartment mats help you keep the interior of your V60 as good as new, whatever you're doing, while an accessory steel grille provides a strong barrier between the passenger and load compartments to help you transport your pet - or bulky loads - safely and securely. Enhance the athletic, powerful character of the V60 with optional 20-inch alloy wheels. The 10 -spoke 'fan' design has a distinctive diamond-cut finish that provides a striking contrast between the matte black inner sections and bright outer sections. Add 350 litres to the carrying capacity of your V60 with this sleek, Volvo Cars-designed roof box. Quick-grip mountings mean you can secure it with one hand, and an integrated light makes loading at night easy. Its aerodynamic shape helps to keep wind resistance and noise to a minimum. Strong, lockable aluminium bars that clip into the car’s roof rails to provide a base for roof boxes and a range of sports equipment carriers, from ski holders to kayak cradles. Strong yet easy to mount, this holder will carry three bicycles (four with the optional adapter) on the towbar. Ratchet straps secure the wheels and the wheel holders adjust to fit different wheelbases. A tilt function means you can access the load compartment without having to remove the holder. A light, strong, roof-mounted bicycle holder that positions the bike as you attach it, so it’s always securely fastened in the right place. Adjustable quick-release straps can accommodate different widths of tyre, and the double lock secures the holder and the bicycle to the car. Designed to emphasise the dynamic, athletic character of the V60, the exterior styling kit includes front and rear side deflectors, sill mouldings, a rear diffuser and double integrated dual split end pipes. All parts are body coloured apart from the rear diffuser, which is in black.
New Volvo V60 Cross Country Concept 2019 - 2020 Review, Photos, Exhibition, Exterior and Interior
Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, revealed the new Cross Country version of its V60 mid-size estate. The rugged Volvo V60 Cross Country is the latest addition to the company's line-up of brand new Volvos that underpins the company's transformation in recent years.
Like its V60 sibling that was launched earlier this year on the driveway of a Stockholm villa, the Volvo V60 Cross Country personifies the versatile Swedish family estate. To that profile, it adds the capability on and off the beaten track that has defined Volvo's Cross Country range since its introduction in 1997, taking the V60 from the suburb to the skogen (Swedish for forest).
"With the new V60 Cross Country, we take our Swedish family estate from one natural habitat to another," said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. "We invented the Cross Country segment over 20 years ago and with this car, we reinforce our long-standing pedigree in safe, capable and versatile family cars."
Ground clearance for the Volvo V60 Cross Country is up to 75mm higher than the regular V60, thanks to the specially developed Cross Country chassis and suspension that enhance the car's off-road capability. All-wheel-drive is standard on the new V60 Cross Country, as are Hill Descent Control, Electronic Stability Control, Corner Traction Control and a special Off-Road driving mode.
Like its 60 Series and 90 Series stablemates, the new V60 Cross Country benefits from Volvo Cars' award-winning Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system.
