We had the absolute pleasure of having not one, not two but three of the worlds finest Sweedish luthiers, Ted Åstrand, Lars Rasmussen, and Tobias Lindberg on the TNAG sofa earlier this month. We talk to about shop moves, inspiration and giving each other friendly advise and support. We hope you enjoy this insightful and fun Talking Guitars Session.
Here is a wonderful TNAG session with legendary guitarist Stuart Ryan playing his brand new Gerber RL15+ In Claro Walnut and Master Swiss Spruce. This is an absolutely outstanding Model RL15+ in Claro Walnut & Master Swiss Moon Spruce from new hottest luthier on the scene Ryan Gerber from Gerber Guitars. Ryan builds a beautiful instrument with smooth clean lines and an attention to detail that Leonardo DaVinci would be proud of. A beautiful balanced and charismatic intrument it leaves you oodles of headroom and a gorgeous overtone overhang that lasts for days. Crisp and clean in the highs with a sweet nest to the mids and low end. Ryans guitars have a signature voice that truly sets them apart, they sit perfectly with a vocal or a crowded band environment but truly excel in solo fingerstyle pieces. A masterful all-rounder. This is an absolutely outrageous pre-owned Matsuda M1 Cutaway in Brazilian Rosewood & Italian Spruce. To have one available in the country is rare but to have two available at the same time is unheard of! As with all of Michi Matsuda instruments, his eye for design is simple, elegant with a touch of flamboyance, and this guitar is no exception. The wenge and spalted maple rosette matched with spalted maple inlays at the upper bout by the Florentine cutaway make it undoubtedly a Matsuda. As with all of Michi's guitars from the moment you pick them up, you are sent into the clouds, shimmering sweet trebles and lush thick overtones just keep you wanting more. Built in a jaw-dropping set of Brazilian Rosewood (one of the finest sets we have seen this year) and paired with a light and smooth Italian spruce make this a beautifully balanced instrument. This M1 was originally owned by luthier superstar Jason Kostal in one of his personal collection and is (of course) in museum like condition. Perfect for the finger style player but will also take a flat pick beautifully and sits with vocals very well. This OM cutaway, built in a stunning Indian Rosewood for the back and sides and German spruce from superstar luthier Jason Kostal of Kostal Guitars, was originally on order for singer/songwriter David Wilcox. Jason's OM's are famously known for being well balanced, articulate and responsive sounding instrument, giving you everything you would expect from an OM in regard to playability and versatility.
